What projects require DRE?

The following is a general reference to the types of projects that do or do not need filing with the Department of Real Estate. This information is not intended to be all-inclusive and you should contact one of our DRE Coordinators to discuss the filing needs for your particular project.

Projects that do require filing

  • Condominiums consisting of five or more units
  • Planned Developments consisting of five or more units
  • Any subdivision of five or more units located in an unincorporated area
  • Condominium Conversions
  • Projects that do not require filing

  • Any subdivision of less than five lots or units
  • Standard subdivisions of any number of lots that do not have a homeowners association and are located within city limits
  • Commercial or Industrial Subdivisions
  • Subdivisions developed and offered by a public agency
